About Our LGBTQ Work
Welcome to the University Chaplaincy – a place where everyone is welcome just as they are!
For us, the rights of LGBTQ+ people are an integral part of human rights. Everyone should have the freedom to be themselves, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
We have been working with LGBTQ+ issues for several years in various forms. We have seen a need for safe spaces where LGBTQ+ people who are Christian or seeking faith can come together. For us, it’s about creating room for conversation and support, where everyone can feel accepted. Through panel discussions, conversation evenings, interfaith prayers, and lectures, we’ve also worked to foster understanding of LGBTQ+ issues in relation to religion.
Our work aims at several things:
To promote conversations about the role of religion in our lives and the right to love whomever we want and live as we choose. Unfortunately, there are still religious contexts where LGBTQ+ people do not always feel welcome. That’s why it’s important for us to be clear about where we stand.
We meet people from all walks of life, with diverse experiences and choices. It’s important for us to have knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues so that everyone feels respected and welcome when they’re with us. We are here to listen, support, and provide a safe space for you, no matter what you need.
Currently, we are also working with the Rainbow Key process model – a method developed by Katarina Hedqvist, Frida Ohlsson Sandahl, and Erik Gyll to increase awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and diversity, and to create concrete action plans for equal treatment.
